Posted by City College Norwich Media at 10:46 0 commentsNew media technology is changing the way we connect to share knowledge and creativity.
It is essential for all students to have a working knowledge of Participatory Cultures - you will need to talk about Participatory Cultures in every Media in the Online Age essay - it is the big idea for this unit.

A Wiki Film?
Posted by City College Norwich Media at 03:43 0 commentsLook back at the document 'The Ignorance of Crowds' which takes a critical/skeptical view of Wikinomics/We-Think theories. How does this 'mass collaboration' media venture compare with Nicholas Carr's views?
Take a look at the BBC website for more info... oh and did this 'movie' ever get finished?????

To push or pull that is the question...
Posted by City College Norwich Media at 03:19 0 commentsThe key word here is choice... there's loads of it... you can pull what you want rather rather than just accept what you're pushed. Terrestrial TV in lounge with Five channels = you have to accept what's being pushed to you. Net TV on the otherhand... you can surf for hours and pull what ever content your heart desires.

Charles Leadbeater has coined the term 'we-think'; he states that the world is changing because of Web 2.0 and 'creative collaboration' between Internet users. Creative collaboration and we-think is when ideas are shared and discussed online. Users share their ideas and creative projects for recognition rather than for money.
Example of 'creative collaboration' and we-think:
- Second Life;
- Wikipedia;
- Linux software;
- Linux games - http://www.linux.org/apps/all/Entertainment/3D_Games.html
- World of Warcraft - http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/community/stories/stories.xml
- You Tube;
- Vimeo
Charles Leadbeater's ideas are changing the video games industry. The audience for video games, especially the core gamers, are sharing ideas, cheats and releasing 'patches' online that alter or remix the gaming experience.
The gaming industry are actively trying to foster and encourage user-generated ideas as this helps them to develop their games.
Charles Leadbeater's ideas about we-think and creative collaboration are revolutionising the video games industry and the wider media landscape.
